Five Susman Godfrey Attorneys Named Among World’s Leading Competition Lawyers

HOUSTON, DALLAS and LOS ANGELES (Jan. 29, 2014) — Five attorneys with litigation powerhouse Susman Godfrey were named to The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers & Economists 2014. Partners Stephen D. SusmanMarc M. SeltzerBarry C. Barnett, Warren T. Burns and Joseph S. Grinstein were recognized in the guide’s U.S. Plaintiffs section.

“Antitrust litigation has always been one of our core strengths,” said Susman, the firm’s founder. “Since winning the landmark Corrugated Container price-fixing case in 1980, we’ve recovered billions of dollars for plaintiffs bringing price-fixing, market allocation, concerted refusal to deal, and monopolization claims.”

While known for its plaintiff work, the firm has also represented numerous antitrust defendants, including Aetna (conspiracy to restrain trade), Northwest Airlines (price fixing), Intel (monopolization), Little Caesars (tying), Medtronic, Inc. (raiding), Universal Studios (price fixing), and more.

The firm’s recent antitrust wins include the first-ever case where Chinese companies were sued and found liable under U.S. antitrust law. Susman Godfrey secured a $162.3 million verdict in an antitrust price-fixing class action brought on behalf of direct purchasers of vitamin C against two Chinese vitamin C manufacturers.

In addition, the firm recently secured $86 million in settlements on behalf of airline passengers who alleged that between January 1, 2000, and August 1, 2007, Korean Air Lines and Asiana Airlines conspired to fix the price of air travel between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers & Economists 2014 forms the Competition chapter to the guide’s 2014 annual compendium volume, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers. Nominees were selected based upon “comprehensive, independent survey work with both general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide,” according to the guide.

In September 2013, the firm’s named partners, Stephen D. Susman and H. Lee Godfrey, were named to The International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigators 2013.
