Partners Matthew Berry and Arun Subramanian Named Rising Stars by Euromoney Legal Media

Berry Named for Litigation: General Commercial and Subramanian Named for Bankruptcy Litigation

Matthew Berry and Arun Subramanian, partners in Susman Godfrey’s Seattle office and New York office, respectively, have been named Rising Stars in 2018 by Euromoney Legal Media. The awards celebrate stand-out lawyers under the age of 40 and highlight “the progress of firms in terms of recruitment, mentoring, talent management and succession planning.”

Matthew Berry – Best in Litigation: General Commercial

Named a Rising Star in Litigation by Law360 in 2017, Berry has established himself as a go-to trial lawyer for high stakes commercial litigation.

Most recently, in Green Mountain Glass v. Ardagh, Berry helped secure a $50.3 million verdict for his client, Green Mountain Glass in a Delaware patent infringement action that has now grown to approximately $62 million after pre-judgment interest.  In early 2018, Berry was also a crucial member of the trial team representing Uber in this year’s battle over self-driving technology between Uber and Google’s Waymo. Waymo was seeking damages of almost $2 billion in the highly publicized case, which settled favorably to Uber a week into trial. Most recently Berry is facing off against Samsung, Verizon, and Cisco in his representation of inventors in high stakes patent infringement cases.

Arun Subramanian – Best in Bankruptcy Litigation

One of the youngest Partners in Susman Godfrey’s successful New York Office, Subramanian has proven himself a skilled and savvy trial lawyer who often faces off against opponents with twice his experience.

Subramanian is currently deeply involved in the national high stakes matter, In re: Libor-based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigationwhere he has helped to secure over half a billion dollars in settlements and recently won class certification for the OTC plaintiffs he represents on their antitrust claims.  In 2016, Subramanian secured a complete jury victory in Tyler, Texas, on behalf of client Globus Medical, whom he served as co-lead counsel to, in a patent infringement case brought by Flex-u-spine, Inc., a local Tyler company.  Shortly before that win Subramanian was hugely successful in a landmark False Claims Act lawsuit against the Swiss drug manufacturer, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, which settled for over $450 million – the highest award ever given in a whistleblower suit of this nature.
