Susman Godfrey Named to Law360’s ‘Most Feared Plaintiffs Firms’ For Second Consecutive Year

NEW YORK (Oct. 30, 2014)—Susman Godfrey LLP has been named to Law360’s list of “Most Feared Plaintiffs Firms” for the second year in a row.

Susman Godfrey was one of just 10 law firms nationwide named to the list recognizing firms who “give heart to the aggrieved and injured and strike fear in the defense bar,” Law360 wrote. The winning plaintiffs firms were chosen based on the firms’ performance in high-profile, complex cases between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014.

Susman Godfrey’s plaintiff victories during that period included recovering more than $75 million in cash and other consideration for LyondellBasell Industries and its subsidiary, Houston Refining LP, in a case involving a kickback scheme perpetrated by a former employee, which was uncovered by an internal investigation led by Susman Godfrey’s team. Other victories included a $19 million cash settlement for customers of two New York tour bus companies in an antitrust class action suit and $86 million in settlements on behalf of airline passengers in a price-fixing class action against Korean Air Lines and Asiana Airlines.

Founding Partner Stephen Susman noted that Susman Godfrey’s inclusion on the list for the second year in a row is a tribute to the firm’s focus on “bet the company” and other high-stakes litigation.

“We don’t simply happen into a big case now and then—it’s our specialty,” Susman said. “Complex, high-stakes litigation – not any one practice area – is our focus, and that’s why defense attorneys fear us.”

Susman Godfrey’s inclusion on Law360’s “Most Feared Plaintiffs Law Firm” list follows its recent recognition on The National Law Journal’s inaugural list of “America’s Elite Trial Lawyers.”
