Susman Godfrey Rises in Annual Chambers USA Guide with 10 Attorneys Named ‘Leaders in Their Field’, 4 Offices Ranked as Leading Firm Locations

Chambers and Partners has named 10 attorneys from litigation powerhouse Susman Godfrey as “Leaders in their Field” and prominently ranked several of the firm’s practices in its annual guide to U.S. law firms. Susman Godfrey also added to its rankings year-over-year, with two more attorneys and one more office recognized than in 2015. Three of the firm’s ranked lawyers advanced in their respective practices and two were named “Up and Coming.”

Considered one of the legal industry’s most credible rankings reports, Chambers USA is published annually in May. Chambers and Partners’ 150 full-time editors and researchers conduct in-depth telephone interviews with lawyers and clients, and assess recent work to determine the rankings.

The firm’s attorneys were recognized in litigation, antitrust and intellectual property:

Buchdahl and Carmody were new to the list this year. Harrison, Wawro and Folse all advanced in the band tables over 2015. In addition, two Susman Godfrey partners received recognition from Chambers as “Up and Coming” attorneys: Brooke A. M. Taylor for Intellectual Property (Nationwide) and Arun Subramanian for Litigation: General Commercial (New York).

Four of Susman Godfrey’s offices were named as “Leading Locations,” with Los Angeles joining the rankings for the first time this year:

  • Los Angeles: Litigation: Mainly Plaintiff
  • New York: General Commercial Litigation
  • Texas: Antitrust, General Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property
  • Washington: General Commercial Litigation

Los Angeles office gains recognition

In recognizing the Los Angeles office for the first time, Chambers said that Susman Godfrey is a “superb litigation firm that mainly acts for plaintiffs with a reputation for securing favorable results against industry giants.” It noted the firm’s experience with “antitrust, insurance and patent infringement matters.”

Client praise

The 2016 Chambers USA guide included significant praise gathered during direct interviews with clients. They said Susman Godfrey was “an outstanding litigation firm” with “terrific trial lawyers.” Clients also noted the firm is “really good and very creative” and that its lawyers are “just really effective…[t]hey get results.”

Individual Susman Godfrey lawyers also received client praise. They said the “very gifted” Stephen Susman “is as well known as any litigator in the history of Texas.” Barry Barnett was described as “outstanding” and “just brilliant,” while Bill Carmody’s “great way with a jury” received attention. Other clients described Max Tribble as “very smart, very effective and a very good lawyer,” Neal Manne as “excellent” and “incredibly smart, thoughtful and very strategic,” and said Geoffrey Harrison “knows how to get to the heart of an issue without wasting time.” Similar praise was given to Parker Folse, with one client calling him “a superior trial lawyer” with “a lot of integrity,” and Chambers notes Harry Susman’s “excellent reputation as a versatile commercial litigator.” Of newly ranked Jacob Buchdahl, a client said “his litigation skills are extraordinary,” and Mark Wawro was said to have “an even-keeled approach that is very effective.”
