Overview
Allen Hernandez joined Susman Godfrey after clerking for Judge Stephen A. Higginson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Sarah S. Vance of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Allen has quickly developed an active appellate practice. Most recently, he argued an appeal before the Houston (First) Court of Appeals on behalf of home goods retailer World Market in a real estate dispute with its commercial landlord. He defended Susman Godfrey’s trial-court victory, including World Market’s right to remain in the premises, while seeking reversal of the trial court’s ruling requiring the payment of certain “additional rent” going forward. Watch the argument here.
Just weeks earlier, Allen argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit on behalf of Porch.com. In that case, Porch sued its reinsurance broker after discovering that its subsidiary’s reinsurance policy was backed by fraudulent letters of credit. Allen sought and obtained a reversal of the district court’s dismissal of the lawsuit. Listen to the argument here.
Allen earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served on the officer board of the Yale Law Journal and was a Coker Fellow in constitutional law. He also participated in the Challenging Mass Incarceration Clinic and was a director, writer, and performer in the Law Revue. Before law school, he worked as a litigation paralegal at a New York law firm.
He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University.
