Overview
Armando represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation disputes across the nation. With experience in a wide variety of practice areas, Armando has secured significant wins for his clients, who range from large corporations to smaller businesses and individuals.
In a trade secrets and breach of contract dispute, Black Knight, Inc. v. PennyMac Loan Services, LLC, Armando and a team from Susman Godfrey represented Black Knight before the American Arbitration Association regarding PennyMac’s unauthorized use of Black Knight’s mortgage servicing platform and related confidential information in developing PennyMac’s mortgage servicing platform. During the 8-week arbitration, Armando conducted direct and cross-examinations of key witnesses. He and his team secured a $155+ million arbitration award after the Tribunal determined PennyMac engaged “a willful, company-wide, management-directed effort to spoliate evidence.”
In addition, Armando represented individuals and entity plaintiffs in “earnout” disputes in both arbitral and court forums, a large oilfield equipment provider in a breach of contract dispute, and a real estate analytics start-up company in a trade secret misappropriation, fraud, and breach of contract case.
On the defense side, Armando represented individuals and entities in a high-stakes lawsuit alleging fraud, violations of the Texas Securities Act, violations of the Texas Theft Liability Act, and related causes of action in both state court and federal bankruptcy court. After years of litigation, Armando and his team obtained an opinion finding, in part, that the Plaintiff exhibited a “clear record of troubling conduct,” including by failing to comply with orders issued by the state court, resulting in a full dismissal with prejudice and an award of costs against the Plaintiff.
Armando joined Susman Godfrey after clerking for Judge David O. Carter of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and for Judge Gerard E. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was the Executive Online Editor for the Columbia Law Review.
