Bill O'Connell
Associate

Bill O’Connell is an associate in the New York office of Susman Godfrey.  Bill represents plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes complex litigation matters across a variety of practice areas, including intellectual property, shareholder derivative litigation, negligence, and the False Claims Act.

Some of Bill’s recently concluded public matters include:

  • Representing Barkan Wireless IP Holdings in its patent infringement lawsuit in the Eastern District of Texas involving Verizon’s and Samsung’s sales of femtocell products known as “Network Extenders.” Bill played a crucial role in this matter, taking and defending ten depositions, briefing a number of motions, and arguing at the Markman hearing.  In May 2019, the case settled for a confidential sum.
  • Representing the chief executives of FragranceNet.com, Inc. in a derivative action filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery. The action settled in discovery after Susman Godfrey was brought as trial counsel.

Before joining Susman Godfrey, Bill served as a federal law clerk for the Hon. Judge Reena Raggi of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and for the Hon. Judge William H. Pauley III of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.  These experiences equipped Bill with a unique and deep understanding of the inner workings of the bench.

Bill was the Editor-in-Chief of the Duke Law Journal at Duke Law School, from which he graduated summa cum laude and Order of the Coif.  Bill earned his B.A. Phi Beta Kappa and with honors from the University of Chicago.
