Overview
Lisa Jing represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial disputes at the trial and appellate levels. Before joining Susman Godfrey, Lisa served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan L. Carney of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and to the Honorable Lorna G. Schofield of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Lisa also practiced at Goldstein & Russell, P.C., a Supreme Court litigation boutique.
Notable Representations
- Representing a major transportation company in an ongoing insurance coverage dispute. At trial, Lisa put on expert and fact witnesses, and was a key member in briefing summary judgment and post-trial issues.
- Representing a real estate investor in a cross-border investment dispute, spanning an arbitration, two state court actions, and litigation abroad. In state court, Lisa successfully briefed cross-motions for summary judgment, resulting in complete dismissal of all claims from the bench and an award of attorney’s fees and costs. At trial, Lisa crossed three key witnesses, directed three witnesses, and argued and won numerous motions including exclusion of the counterparty’s expert witness.
- Representing the relator in a multibillion-dollar False Claims Act suit against UnitedHealthGroup and subsidiaries arising from United’s Medicare Advantage practices. Alongside the DOJ, Lisa has deposed key high-ranking United witnesses.
- Represented an investment trust against Allianz Global Investors in a $170 million+ fiduciary duty and ERISA dispute over the collapse of Allianz’s Structured Alpha Funds. Lisa was part of the small team that obtained a favorable early settlement prior to any depositions.
- Successfully represented a technology company in opposing a petition for certiorari on the interpretation of the inter partes review estoppel statute, 35 U.S.C. § 315(e)(2). Read Lisa’s brief here, and coverage about the brief (link) and result (link).
- Briefing amici issues in Supreme Court cases. Lisa’s amicus brief on the dormant Commerce Clause, in Walmart v. Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, No. 19-1368, was featured in Law360 (link). Read the brief here.
- Before joining Susman, Lisa was a member of the team that successfully represented Google in the blockbuster copyright case, Google LLC v. Oracle America, Inc., No. 18-956 (read here). Lisa worked closely with lead counsel to prepare the supplemental brief ordered by the Supreme Court after it postponed oral argument.
