Bill Carmody Named ‘Titan of the Plaintiffs Bar’ by Law360

Law360 has named Susman Godfrey’s Head of New York Office, Partner Bill Carmody a “Titan of the Plaintiffs Bar.”

The Law360 profile highlights Carmody’s long, successful career, detailing his booming practice in high-stakes, bet-the-company trials. Most recently in the nationally covered dispute that pit Google’s Waymo against Uber, Bill parachuted in before trial to defend Uber. After his public and private opening statements and the presentation of four days of evidence, the high-profile case ended in a highly favorable settlement.

This is just one of Bill’s the many recent successes that the article describes. In the same time period, Bill also secured nearly $600 million in settlements for the class he represents in In Re: Libor-Based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigation, where under Bill’s leadership, the plaintiffs were just granted class certification in a hotly contested certification process with the remaining defendants.  In late 2017, Bill successfully tried a contract case before a federal jury in the Southern District of New York for his repeat client, General Electric. In this case, the jury’s verdict in favor of Carmody and GE led to a judgment for GE worth more than $160 million.

The article also includes commentary from Bill’s long-time Partner, Shawn Rabin, who says of Bill, “He’s a storyteller. Whether it’s sitting together over drinks or at dinner, or before a jury, he’s someone that you want to be around and that juries want to relate to.”
