Brian Melton Honored by University of Houston Law School with the Private Practice Achievement Award

Houston-based Partner, Brian Melton, is being honored by the University of Houston Law School Alumni Association with their annual Private Practice Achievement Award.  This award recognizes, “exceptional achievement in and legal excellence in private practice.” Melton graduated second in his class from UH Law in 1999.

Melton is a nationally recognized lead trial lawyer, regularly trying and winning bet-the-company cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.  He has secured several momentous wins throughout his career including his landmark victory for Beats headphone designer, Steven Lamar, in a nationally followed breach of contract lawsuit against Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and Beats Electronics over the design of the now iconic beats headphones. In 2018, Melton secured a $25.25 million jury verdict for Lamar in California federal court. Melton then spent time in 2019 convincing the Judge to double the value of the judgment to $52 million – at which point Apple settled the case for a confidential amount. Law360 covered the story in their “How They Won It” series and The Recorder also ran a feature story on Melton and his significant role in this case.

Melton will be honored by UH at their 44th Annual UH Law Gala & Auction on August 29 in Houston.
