Los Angeles Partners Kalpana Srinivasan and Steven Sklaver Recognized as ‘California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year’ by The Daily Journal

Los Angeles Partners Kalpana Srinivasan and Steven Sklaver along with co-counsel from Gradstein & Marzano PC  have been recognized as “California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year” for their ground-breaking 2016 copyright infringement class action litigation on behalf of legendary music group, The Turtles, and all owners of pre-1972 recordings against Sirius XM.

The Daily Journal’s annual California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Awards recognize lawyers licensed in California for achievements with a significant and meaningful impact on public policy, the law, the profession, or a particular practice area.

In the lawsuit, Flo & Eddie Inc. v. Sirius XM Radio Inc., (Case No. CV 13-05693), Srinivasan and Sklaver and co-lead counsel from Gradstein & Marzano led plaintiffs who sought payment for royalties for songs recorded before 1972 that were played by Sirius XM.  The significant settlement reached on the brink of trial in federal court in California is subject to court approval and included an all-cash fund of at least $25 million and a going-forward royalty that can change based on the results of certain appeals.  The settlement  was “meaningful for our clients,” said Sklaver and “it took the prospect of the jury trial, which was scheduled to start less than 48 hours before the settlement was completed, to get Sirius XM to do the right thing and reward these artists who have been unpaid for too long,” said Srinivasan.   You can read more about the case and settlement here and read The Daily Journal’s full article here.
