HOUSTON (July 15, 2016) — On behalf of U.S. consumers and businesses, Susman Godfrey and its co-lead counsel have secured a $193 million settlement with the Japanese automobile parts supplier DENSO Corp. and its affiliates in the In Re Automotive Parts (Auto Parts) price-fixing class action. DENSO, one of the world’s biggest auto parts suppliers, provides automative components to major automobile manufacturers including Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Chrysler, and others. This agreement brings total settlements achieved in the case to nearly half a billion dollars. The multidistrict litigation, pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, alleges long-running global collusion by auto parts companies to fix prices of automotive component parts.
“We are pleased to have now recovered $482 million on behalf of class members who were the ultimate victims of this anti-competitive conduct.” said Marc M. Seltzer, who leads the Susman Godfrey Auto Parts trial team.
The Auto Parts multidistrict litigation, unprecedented in its scope and complexity, now encompasses 38 class action lawsuits. Seltzer and Susman Godfrey serve as interim co-lead counsel for a putative class of consumers and businesses that purchased motor vehicles — known as the End-Payor Plaintiffs — along with Steven N. Williams of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP and Hollis Salzman of Robins Kaplan LLP.
Also serving on the Susman Godfrey Auto Parts trial team are Terry Oxford, Steven Sklaver, Chanler Langham, Omar Ochoa, Lindsay Calkins, Ken Sato, Hiro Yagihashi and John de Perczel.
