Partners Davida Brook and Stephen Shackelford have been named among Law360’s Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar in the publications annual listing of the top eleven plaintiffs lawyers in the nation.
In 2023 Brook and Shackelford, working with co-counsel, achieved a $787.5 million settlement to resolve a massive defamation suit against Fox News Network on behalf of Dominion Voting Systems. In Law360’s profile, their co-counsel Rodney Smolla, called Brook and Shackelford a “lawyer’s dream” as co-counsel and praised their ability to engage in candid give-and-take, yet at the end of the day, coalesce around and support the ultimate direction that is decided upon. Another co-counsel, Megan Meier, said “Davida is a no-nonsense litigator who gets things done and knows how to wrest incriminating documents and testimony from intransigent corporate defendants,” and “Stephen is a deft oral advocate who commands the attention of everyone in the courtroom, and is one of the kindest lawyers practicing law today.”
Also in 2023 Brook and Shackelford were involved in securing a $203 million win for NY hedge funder Louis Bacon in his high-profile defamation lawsuit against Peter Nygård — likely the largest defamation judgment in New York history.
Brook and Shackelford wrap up the profile praising their firm, Susman Godfrey, “We work at a wonderful firm, and we have a wonderful, wonderful group of partners in four offices.”
