Ophelia F. Camiña
| I have 25 years of experience trying and winning lawsuits. I have tried cases for plaintiffs and defendants; in state court, federal court and in arbitration. These cases are in a broad range of commercial disputes. Click on the link marked "Representative Cases" to see a sample of the cases I have handled. I include contact information for my clients and opposing counsel. I expect you will want to talk to these people who know, first hand, about how I handle, and win, cases.
In addition to actual results, I have received recognition by my peers and the community for my skills as a trial lawyer.
In May 2010, I was selected for "Best Women Lawyers in Dallas" by DMagazine in the area of Litigation.
In February 2008, I was profiled by the Dallas Business Journal in an article called Fighting Chance. The DBJ wrote: "Ophelia Camina is no ordinary lawyer. A partner with Susman Godfrey LLP since 1991, she has achieved extraordinary success at trial."
In 2008, I was selected to be a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society. My membership was based on my excellence in advocacy and effectiveness and accomplishments in the courtroom.
In October 2007, I received the President's Award by the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association in recognition of my success in the legal profession.
In 2006, 2008 and 2010, I was selected for Best Lawyers in America ® in the area of Commercial Litigation.
In 2005, I was named one of the "Top 50 Women Lawyers" in Texas.
Each year since its creation in 2003, I have been selected as a "Super Lawyer" by Texas Monthly Magazine.
In 1993, the Dallas Business Journal selected me for their "40 Under 40 Award" a recognition of young business leaders.
In December 2007, The Robert Redford Center at Sundance Preserve produced a film called Fighting Goliath: Texas Coal Wars. The film is a documentary about the Texas Cities' opposition to the permitting of new coal plants. I was on the legal team representing the Texas Cities. I am also in the film, playing myself, as a member of the legal team. Susman Godfrey also received the National Law Journal's Pro Bono Award for its pro bono representation of the Texas Cities in this litigation.
In addition to my law practice, in 2005, I was appointed to the 7 member Board of Managers of Parkland Hospital. In 2004, I was appointed to the Texas Equal Access to Justice Commission. In 2003, I was elected to the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, where I served on the Executive Committee.
