Bill Carmody Named Attorney of the Year by New York Law Journal

New York partner, Bill Carmody, has been named Attorney of the Year by New York Law Journal as part of its 2025 Professional Excellence awards. At a ceremony in NYC on September 4th, the American Legal Media publication recognized Carmody, who beat out two other finalists for the honor. Additionally, partner Stephanie Spies was recognized as a Rising Star.

Carmody tried three of the biggest cases in the country in 2024 – serving as lead trial counsel to clients in two jury trials and one bench trial. In one, Bill led efforts to win a $4.7 billion jury verdict finding the NFL conspired and violated antitrust laws through its Sunday Ticket offering. The trial court vacated the $4.7B verdict on a post-trial motion, while leaving untouched the jury’s determination that the NFL violated antitrust laws. The case is currently on appeal. Bill also led the way to secure $700 million ($266M in a jury verdict against McKesson and AmerisourceBergen and over $427 million in settlements with other defendants) for the City of Baltimore to hold them accountable for the city’s opioid crisis.

Coincidentally, just one day before the awards ceremony, Carmody secured a $425 million jury verdict for a class of millions of Plaintiffs who allege that Google collects users’ Internet and application activity even when users turn Google’s “Web & App Activity” button off, after serving as co-lead trial counsel for plaintiffs in a nearly three-week trial.

This honor comes just weeks after Carmody was named “2025 Plaintiffs Attorney of the Year” by National Law Journal as part of its Elite Trial Lawyer series.
