Susman Godfrey managing partner Neal Manne and partner Bill Carmody have been honored as a “Legends” by Lawdragon. The feature recognized 41 attorneys from across the United States who have been named to the annual “Lawdragon 500” list ten times. The Legends, who include two Supreme Court justices and several prominent firm founders, are considered by Lawdragon to be “larger than life and illustrate the power and promise that can be achieved when a match is struck to ignite a piece of paper with will, dedication and passion”.
Manne is routinely recognized by various legal publications as one of the most successful attorneys in the country. Lawdragon describes him as, “the olive in the cocktail, the Frank Sinatra of the Rat Pack…. supremely that guy – the politico, legal genius and community activist without whom there’s only a bunch of separate voices.” Manne represents some of the top companies on the Fortune 100 list, including Chevron and Wal-Mart, the latter of which considers Manne one of its “national trial counsel” and for whom he won two major trials in 2016. Manne also donates a large amount of time to pro bono cases, where he has found ample success.
Carmody heads up the New York office at Susman Godfrey after moving to the city from Texas. According to Lawdragon, “This renegade Texas trial lawyer returned home to New York with his Susman Godfrey posse, and when disaster looms, he bets on the results of his clients’ big ticket litigation.” Carmody has recently scored huge wins for clients such as False Claims Act lawsuit against the Swiss drug manufacturer Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation where total settlements have reached $465 million, a $120 million LIBOR antitrust settlement with Barclaysand over $220 million in recoveries in In Re Municipal Derivatives Antitrust Litigation, for which he and his team and received a 2016 American Antitrust Institute Award.
