Partner Rohit Nath has been named Intellectual Property Attorney of the Year at The Recorder‘s 2026 California Legal Awards, one of the state’s highest honors recognizing excellence in the legal profession. The award recognizes attorneys whose work is, “shaping the future of intellectual property law through exceptional advocacy, innovation, and impact.”
Nath earned the recognition for his leadership in some of the nation’s most consequential artificial intelligence and copyright disputes, including his groundbreaking work on behalf of authors challenging the unauthorized use of copyrighted works to train generative AI models.
Among the matters highlighted is Nath’s leadership in the landmark copyright litigation against Anthropic. Representing a class of authors and publishers, Nath helped secure a court-approved $1.5 billion class action settlement—which is one of the most significant resolutions to date arising from generative AI copyright claims. The case has become a defining example of the legal questions surrounding AI training, fair use, and creators’ rights in the age of artificial intelligence.
Beyond Anthropic, Nath has established himself as one of the country’s leading lawyers at the forefront of AI litigation. He also represents the Authors Guild and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors in their copyright action against OpenAI and Microsoft, litigating issues that will help define the relationship between artificial intelligence, innovation, and intellectual property for years to come.
