LOS ANGELES (Jan. 29, 2014)—Susman Godfrey attorney Kalpana Srinivasan has been named to the Daily Journal’s “Top 20 Under 40” list of California attorneys. The annual list honors the best and brightest in California’s legal industry.
A partner in Susman Godfrey’s Los Angeles office, Srinivasan was recognized for her record of successfully handling and trying high-stakes cases against such leading companies as Apple, Sony, Microsoft and more. In recent years, she has litigated high-profile plaintiff patent cases involving world-famous brands such as Xbox, the iPhone and Google.
On the defense side, Srinivasan served on the Susman Godfrey legal team that recently received a favorable ruling for client Jerry Moyes – the former owner of the Phoenix Coyotes – eliminating most of the damages in a $145 million breach of contract lawsuit by the NHL. Srinivasan also secured a full defense jury verdict in a closely watched Kentucky employment class action after weeks of trial.
A partner since 2009 – just four years after joining the firm – Srinivasan has spent more than 80 days at trial, handling cases in both state and federal court across the country. She has argued successfully at Markman hearings, dispositive motion proceedings and at trial, making her one of the most experienced and accomplished young female patent attorneys in the nation.
Her legal victories have generated a billion dollars in recoveries and savings for her clients.
“You would be hard pressed to find any other attorney Kalpana’s age in the country with this much trial experience and success,” Susman Godfrey founder Stephen Susman said.
A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School, Srinivasan clerked for Judge Raymond C. Fisher on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She currently serves on the firm’s diversity committee, and most recently served as Susman Godfrey’s hiring partner, overseeing attorney employment across the firm’s five offices in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Dallas and Houston. She also serves on the board of the Western Justice Center, and previously served as an executive committee board member for the North American South Asian Bar Association.
The Daily Journal is California’s leading legal publication. To compile the annual “Top 20 under 40” list, Daily Journal editors and reporters consider hundreds of lawyers throughout California, focusing on the attorneys’ work accomplishments and impact on the legal community. According to the editors, the list – now in its 21st year – becomes more selective each year, with an increasingly large pool of worthy candidates.
