Texas Partner Mark Wawro and His Wife, Melanie Gray, to Receive Texas Appleseed’s ‘Good Apple Award’ for Pro Bono Work, Commitment to Justice

Texas partner, Mark Wawro, and his wife Melanie Gray are to be honored for their pro bono legal work and commitment to justice by the nonprofit Texas Appleseed, who has just announced it will present Mark and Melanie with its annual “J. Chrys Dougherty Good Apple Award.” In its announcement, Texas Appleseed said, “Melanie and Mark are accomplished lawyers whose philanthropic contributions have expanded opportunities to ensure justice and improved the legal profession.”

Mark has served on the board of Texas Appleseed for over 20 years. His pro bono portfolio includes work with the Innocence Project that led to overturning a wrongful conviction and helping Texas Appleseed prevent predatory payday and auto title lenders. Mark served as a leader in organizations that advance the literary arts, fine art and cinema, as well as other charitable endeavors in Houston and beyond.

Mark and Melanie will be honored November 15 at the public interest law organization’s annual Good Apple Award ceremony.
