Verdict secures the largest damages award to date in the ongoing litigation against PacifiCorp
Susman Godfrey LLP secured a $305 million jury verdict for 16 wildfire survivors against PacifiCorp, the utility company previously found liable for the 2020 Labor Day wildfires that caused widespread destruction in Oregon. The verdict is the largest award to date in the ongoing trials to address individual damages against the company.
The $305 million judgement comes only two months after Susman Godfrey’s December 2025 jury verdict in an separate damages trial against PacifiCorp, which awarded $62 million to 10 wildfire survivors.
In this trial, the jury awarded non-economic damages of $18.5 million to each adult plaintiff and $5 million to each minor plaintiff. Accounting for the court’s Phase 1 liability ruling, the final judgement also doubles each plaintiff’s economic damages and applies a 25% punitive multiplier to the combined damages amounts, resulting in a total recovery of $305 million.
“We’ve witnessed firsthand the hardships our clients have faced in the years since the fires,” said Shawn Rabin, a partner at Susman Godfrey representing the survivors. “This verdict is a meaningful acknowledgement of the devastation they’ve endured and reaffirms the irreversible losses they’ve suffered as a result of the fires.”
Mr. Rabin represented the plaintiffs alongside Susman Godfrey partners Bill Carmody and Michael Kelso, and associates Dustin Fire and Henry Walter. Edelson PC, Keller Rohrback and Stoll Berne are co-lead counsel.
The win has received attention in the media from outlets such as Good Morning, America, ABC News, The Associated Press, Law360, and Law.com.
The case is Stacy Nordmo v. PacifiCorp, Pacific Power in the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for Multnomah County, case number 25CV46772.
