The Head of Susman Godfrey’s Los Angeles Office, Marc Seltzer, is being honored this week by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) at the AJC’s 39th Annual Learned Hand Award Dinner. The Judge Learned Hand Award is the highest honor that the AJC bestows on members of the legal profession. Named in memory of Judge Learned Hand, one of America’s greatest jurists and humanitarians, the award is given to outstanding members of the legal profession in recognition of how their professional and community activities have played a significant role in the betterment of the community.
In addition to his role as Head of the Los Angeles office, Seltzer is a permanent member of the firm’s Executive Committee and has led the firm’s efforts on some of its largest cases including securing over $1.2 million for end-payor plaintiffs in In re: Auto Parts Antitrust Litigation and obtaining a historic settlement valued at $1.4 billion for plaintiffs in In re Toyota Motor Corp. Unintended Acceleration Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation.
In addition to his work and leadership roles at the firm, Seltzer is a past President and current member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and member of the Board of Directors of the American Constitution Society. He is also a past President and current member of the Board of Directors of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society.
Seltzer has been named several times by U.S. News for inclusion in its list of the Best Lawyers of America. Law360 named him one of three Class Action MVPs in the United States and a Competition Law MVP. In 2018, Seltzer was recognized by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California and in 2017, The Recorder named him a Giant Slayer.
Seltzer was honored at an event at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills on November 6th.
