New York Partner Elisha Barron and Seattle Partner Rachel Black have been named 2021 Plaintiffs’ Lawyers Trailblazers by National Law Journal in its fifth annual compilation of individuals who have made their mark on the Plaintiffs’ Bar.
Ms. Barron has secured over $1 billion in jury verdicts and settlements for her clients. She has taken on industry titans such as QuickenLoans, Disney, Dreamworks, Fox News, Novartis Pharmaceuticals and FitBit. Ms. Barron has tried two jury trials to verdict and completed an arbitration in the past 3 years. Currently Ms. Barron is representing plaintiff Dominion Voting Systems in defamation lawsuits against Fox News and individual defendants, and a trade secret misappropriation plaintiff in a confidential arbitration in the mortgage industry, among others. Past plaintiff-side representations include an intentional infliction of emotional against Fox News on behalf of the parents of Seth Rich in Rich v. Fox, securing a confidential settlement; a 2019 confidential construction arbitration where Ms. Barron delivered opening statements and cross-examined key witnesses to secure a complete victory in the form of a multi-million-dollar award; and winning a $706.2 million jury verdict for counter-claim plaintiff HouseCanary against QuickenLoans affiliate Amrock after a 7-week jury trial for trade secret misappropriation, fraud, and breach of contract. The case is on appeal to the Texas Supreme Court and Ms. Barron is actively involved in the appeal.
Rachel Black focuses her practice on high-stakes commercial litigation for plaintiffs across the nation. Rachel provides efficient, dedicated representation for her clients, and over the past two decades has helped her clients secure over $2 billion in settlements in complex matters involving a variety of claims, including patent infringement, antitrust, unfair business practices, trade secrets, and fraud. Her most recent plaintiff’s-side win includes a 2020 settlement valued at $175 million on behalf of entities in California and Nevada against the nation’s leading wireless providers for alleged fraudulent overbilling. As legal counsel to plaintiffs and former members of the rock group The Turtles in Flo & Eddie, Inc. v. SiriusXM in a certified class action lawsuit, Ms. Black helped her client secure a settlement valued at $62 million less than 48 hours before the jury trial was scheduled to begin.
