Susman Godfrey Named to The National Law Journal’s ‘Plaintiffs Hot List’

Susman Godfrey has been named to The National Law Journal’s “Plaintiffs Hot List.”

The litigation boutique was one of just 12 law firms named to the list recognizing the nation’s top plaintiffs’ law firms. “The firms on this year’s list landed groundbreaking verdicts, negotiated big settlements and, in many, cases paved the way for the resolution of other disputes,” The National Law Journal wrote.

In order to be eligible for consideration, law firms had to have scored at least one significant plaintiffs win between Feb. 1, 2013 and Jan. 31, 2014.

“As if helping to secure a historic billion-dollar settlement against Toyota Motor Corp. didn’t keep Susman Godfrey busy enough last year, the firm’s performance was key in other landmark cases as well,” The National Law Journal wrote. “In April, it secured a $106.5 million judgment for bond insurer Assured Guaranty Ltd. against Flagstar Bancorp Inc. for misrepresenting the risk of its mortgage-backed securities.”

The case had a significant impact on dozens of other pending lawsuits: In the wake of Susman Godfrey’s trial victory, banks paid out billions of dollars in settlements to other bond insurers.

The National Law Journal also highlighted Susman Godfrey’s role in securing a $162.3 million verdict in an antitrust price-fixing class action that marked the first-ever case where Chinese companies were sued and found liable under U.S. antitrust law.

Susman Godfrey’s inclusion on The National Law Journal’s “Plaintiffs Hot List” follows its recent recognition on Law360’s “Most Feared Plaintiffs Law Firm” list and BTI Consulting’s “Honor Roll of Most Feared Law Firms.”
