Susman Godfrey’s $706 million win for HouseCanary is #1 for Intellectual Property cases and our $43.2 million win for Apache Deepwater is #5 for Contract cases
Two blockbuster trial wins place Susman Godfrey-led cases among the Texas Lawyer’s 2019 Hall of Fame List. In Title Source Inc. v. House Canary, Susman Godfrey won a verdict of $706,200,000.00 in a trade secrets, breach of contract and fraud matter. The case, co-led by Max Tribble and Kalpana Srinivasan, ranks number 1 on the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame list. In the energy industry and breach of contract case, Apache Deepwater LLC. v. W&T Offshore Inc., Susman Godfrey won a $43,214,515.83 jury verdict—and $48.7 million final judgment. The case, co-led by Geoffrey L. Harrison and Bill Merrill, ranks number 5 on the Contracts Hall of Fame list.
The HouseCanary matter also ranks among Texas Lawyer’s “Top Verdicts in Texas” for 2018 and earned the number 4 spot on National Law Journal’s Top Verdict of 2018 list. In late 2018, the court entered final judgment of $740 million including prejudgment interest and attorneys’ fees. Tribble and Srinivasan were joined on the matter by Matthew Behncke, Elisha Barron, and Rocco Magni.
In the Apache Deepwater matter, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit this past week unanimously affirmed the district court’s $48.7 million judgment. Harrison argued the appeal in the Fifth Circuit. Apache’s judgment is now worth over $49.9 million including post-judgment interest and attorneys’ fees. Working alongside Harrison and Merrill on this matter were Ashley L. McMillian and Abigail C. Noebels.
