Law360 has named SG partner Geoffrey L. Harrison a 2025 “Energy MVP” — one of only five attorneys selected nationwide.
Named an “MVP” for his sustained excellence in energy litigation, Harrison delivered a series of landmark victories for energy-industry clients in 2025. On the plaintiff side, he secured significant wins in both state and federal courts, culminating in a $490 million settlement—representing 98 percent of the $498 million sought—on behalf of Apache Corporation against four of the world’s largest insurance and surety companies for breaching their reimbursement obligations related to the decommissioning of hundreds of offshore oil wells and facilities. Harrison also prevailed in a $22.6 million arbitration award for an upstream oil and gas client against an insurance carrier.
On the defense side, Harrison obtained a “take-nothing” final judgment following a three-week federal jury trial for KBR, Inc., and successfully dismantled Trinseo Europe GmbH’s purported $360 million damages model in an energy-related trade secrets dispute. He also led Equistar Chemicals to victory in a seven-week Texas state court trial involving hundreds of millions of dollars in a chemical plant construction case. In addition, Harrison secured partial dismissal of a timberland investment company’s $31 million in alleged claims for breach of contract, indemnity, and unjust enrichment, and then resolved the dispute for pennies on the dollar.
